Alan Thompson
Alan Thompson, who went straight from school to The Feathered World and who has been for more than eight years its editor, attends to his poultry - chiefly Light Sussex - every morning before starting for business.
This afternoon he will discuss the problems of feeding chicks at the present time and of fattening cockerels on kitchen waste. And he will have something to say about the use to which potatoes and grass can be put by the poultry-keeper.

Tchaikovsky
Although Tchaikovsky was not in sympathy with the ideals of the Russian nationalists, he became very friendly with Balakirev. During a visit to Moscow, Balakirev suggested to him that Shakespeare's Borneo and Juliet would be an ideal subject for symphonic treatment. Tchaikovsky was enthusiastic over the idea, and soon after his return home he began to work out the music. A lively correspondence ensued between the two composers, and Balakirev made many suggestions, including the various incidents in the drama to be treated and the keys to be adopted in the music.
