at the theatre organ

Joseph Seal had his first cinema-organ experience at the Regal Cinema, Altrincham. From there he went to the Lonsdale Cinema at Carlisle, where he got his idea for his signature tune 'D'ye ken John Peel?' After leaving Carlisle he went to the Ritz, Belfast, from where he has broadcast about a hundred times.

No. 11—Duggie Wakefield
The interviewer-Wilfred. Pickles
Produced by Richard North
The latest well-known North-Country comedian to appear in this series was born in Yorkshire and happens to be a brother-in-law of Gracie Fields. Douglas Wakefield , known to his friends and fans as Duggie, loves nothing better than playing to children, and consequently he is always at his best and happiest in pantomime. One of his biggest successes is his own song ' They only call me Ugly Mug '.

played by the Virtuoso String Quartet - Marjorie Hayward (violin); Edwin Virgo (violin); John Yewe Dyer (viola); Cedric Sharpe (cello)

Haydn's three quartets constituting Op. 54 date from 1788 and were dedicated to Johann Tost, a wealthy amateur violinist. The Third Quartet, in E, to be played this afternoon, is the least familiar of the three-the other two, in G and C being among Haydn's best known quartets.

The string quartet
Scott Goddard
Listeners will remember Scott Goddard's talk on ' string quartets' in the original series of Music-Makers' Half-Hours. As before, his programme is designed to be of especial interest to the many string players who have discovered the unending fascination of making music of this kind. Furthermore, it will provide agreeable listening for those who do not make music for themselves.
