In Episode 1 of ' A Case for
Sexton Blake ', in answer to an urgent telegram Blake and Tinker went to 'Sainte Marguerite ', lonely castle in Northumberland, the home of the Marthioly family. There they found that Angelo, Peter Marthioly's younger brother, had been murdered and that the Man in the Iron Mask, the family ghost, had been seen during the night of the murder. While investigating the affair, Blake and Tinker were trapped in a secret passage by the Man in the Iron Mask, and as he slowly approached them they heard faintly the weird music of the ' Song of Death '.
