Edgar Bainton is well known in the North as Principal of the Newcastle Conservatoire of Music, a . position he has held for over a quarter of a century. He was a pupil of Stanford at the Royal College of Music, and at the age of twenty-one was appointed a professor at the Newcastle Conservatoire. He has written numerous compositions, several of which have been given their first performance at the Proms.

Francis Russell (tenor)
Francis Russell spent his early life in South Wales, starting work in a coal-mine at the age of twelve and remaining there for ten years. While singing at a village concert he was heard by Lewys James , a well-known Welsh baritone, who gave him a three years' contract with the Royal Carl Rosa Opera Company.
Later he studied in Italy, and in 1925 sang in his first International Season at Covent Garden, a performance that he- repeated every year until 1932.
