Choice: Music: Falstaff - Live from the Royal Opera House 7.30pm BBC2
Verdi's colourful comic masterpiece is the first opera to be fully staged at the Royal Opera House following its £214 million rebuilding. Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel stars as the degenerate knight of Shakespeare's plays in a spectacular new production. Bernard Haitink conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Royal Opera House in this live performance - also broadcast on Radio 3 - presented by James Naughtie. Completed when Verdi was 79, his final work brims over with high spirits as Falstaff's lecherous designs become the butt of others' jokes. During the interval, Francine Stock presents Full House, a light-hearted music quiz with John Sessions, Simon Callow, Leonard Slatkin and Tasmin Little. (GE)
