Allan Little, presenting this week's edition from Moscow, goes behind the scenes with the creators of Kookli, the Russian satirical equivalent of Spitting Image. He discovers how the puppet-masters go about their task of lampooning the politics of Boris Yeltsin 's Russia.

Bridget Kendall reports from Peru on how bungled operations carried out as part of the government's sterilisation programme have led to the deaths of at least ten women. The plan is to render barren 500,000 women over a period of five years, but the surgery is often performed in unhygienic conditions with little attempt to provide post-operative care.

And from Rosh Ha'ayin in Israel, in an item postponed from 2 May, David Sells investigates the story of hundreds of Yemenite babies stolen during the state's founding, 50 years ago. At the time, most were certified dead, but now it is claimed they were given to Ashkenazi or western Jews who had lost children in the Holocaust or could not conceive.
