Bounty hunter Howard Kemp has been on the trail of Ben Vander groat, outlaw and killer, for weeks. His motive -the 5,000 dollars reward offered for Ben, dead or alive. Kemp is joined by two strangers - Jesse Tate , an old prospector, and Roy Anderson , a cashiered cavalryman. They assist in Ben's capture but demand a share of the reward money.
