The Football Fan
Is he a hooligan? An ignoramus? A layabout? Or just an ordinary, harmless fellow who goes berserk on 'Saturdays'.
Reporter Harold Williamson, himself a fervent fan, follows in the footsteps of literary figures like Arnold Bennett and J.B. Priestley who found the football crowd a fascination. He visits grounds big and small... listens to the cheers, boos, rattles, and earthy humour... talks to the supporters... and finds some famous faces in the crowd.
Alison Kennedy arrived as a student, Anthony Smith came to work on a newspaper. They met by chance, got married, and Bristol became their home. This documentary in three parts is a diary of their lives in the first year of their marriage as they await the birth of their first child.
