Among the many strange and wonderful creatures of the Galapagos Islands the most extraordinary are surely the marine iguanas. These lizards are three feet long, and live, mate, and lay their eggs on land, but swim out through the boiling surf, with a curious lateral movement of the tail, to pasture on the ocean bed.
