To help to answer these questions Peter West interviews Eivind Berggrav, who was involved in the Norwegian resistance movement during the war. The programme is introduced by the Rev. Alan Webster, Warden of Lincoln Theological College.

A comedy by Dan Sutherland

[Starring] Edward Chapman, Helena Pickard
with Susan Burnet, Brian Smith

The action takes place in the Merediths' house in a London suburb

[Photo caption] Edward Chapman and Helena Pickard as John and Lucy Meredith

John Meredith, a senior clerk in the City firm of Brander and Sons, has a tendency to worry obsessively about the future. He has never particularly liked his job but knuckled down to it for twenty-seven years because of the security it seemed to offer - and the prospect of being promoted to General Manager by the age of fifty. Now, just before his fiftieth birthday, he learns from his boss that another, much junior man, is to be preferred as General Manager. This is a shattering blow, and John reacts to it in a surprising way. All his life he has devoted his initiative and intelligence to the service of Brander's, but he now decides to put these same gifts to work on his own account - to the consternation of his family and friends.

A film drama.
[Starring] Henry Fonda
with Dolores Del Rio and J. Carrol Naish
From the novel 'The Power and the Glory' by Graham Greene.

Persecution and ruthless measures by a revolutionary government have suppressed religious observance in a small central American state, and only one priest remains. He is weak, and often unable to live up to the demands made upon him. But through him, and despite his failings, the flame of spiritual guidance remains kindled, and a belief in God endures.
