1/2. Radio 2 celebrates the life and career of Buddy Holly, who would have been 70 on Thursday. Consistently credited with radically influencing rock'n' roll-based pop, Holly had hits from the summer of 1957 until his death in February 1959. But both his chart success and status as a music legend swelled well beyond his death, particularly in the UK.
This two-pa rter explores the many aspects of his career. Contributors include members of the Crickets, Holly authorities John Beecher and Bill Griggs , and others. Plus archive input from Buddy Holly , his family, and manager Norman Petty. Also, Paul McCartney , George Harrison , Hank Marvin , Lonnie Donegan , Cliff Richard and Roger Daltrey. Producer Des Shaw
