Radio 2 marks the 20th anniversary of the death of singer and guitarist Phil Lynott, who at 36 died of a heroin overdose. From 1969 Lynott famously fronted rock band Thin Lizzy, whose many 70s hits include Whiskey in the Jar, Jailbreak, Don't Believe a Word, Waiting for an Alibi and, most famously, the 1976 international hit The Boys Are Back in Town. Lynott's 1981 solo hit single Yellow Pearl served as the theme tune for TV's Top of the Pops until 1986. Contributors include fellow guitarist Gary Moore, Midge Ure, Def Leppard and mother Philomena Lynott, who wrote a biography of her son.
