Pianist David Owen Norris follows Liszt on his record-breaking concert tours as a virtuoso pianist, where he gave a staggering 1,000 concerts over nine years.

Franz Liszt was the most celebrated performer of his day, a phenomenal virtuoso pianist. He was a media-darling who manipulated the press to enhance his reputation, and was adored by his public, the ladies in particular. 

Pianist David Owen Norris follows Liszt on his record-breaking concert tours, from Lisbon to Constantinople, Gibraltar to St Petersburg, where he gave a staggering 1,000 concerts over nine years.

With contributions from historian Donald Sassoon, Rossana Dalmonte from the Liszt Institute in Bologna, and writer Gillen Wood. Plus readings of Liszt's letters by Jamie Glover and reviews of the day by John Sessions.

Another chance to hear a Lunchtime Concert from London's Wigmore Hall. The Beaux Arts Trio perform Beethoven's Variations on a theme by Wenzell Muller and his Archduke trio.

Another chance to hear last Monday's Lunchtime Concert from London's Wigmore Hall.

Written for, and dedicated to, Archduke Rudolph of Austria, the B flat trio is the most famous and the largest in scale of Beethoven's works in this form. The Beaux Arts Trio pair it with a work of much chronological debate, the composer's variations on a theme by Wenzell Muller.

Christopher Cook introduces a performance from Opera North in Leeds of a rarely heard 18th century German opera by Reinhard Keiser, an early contemporary of Handel. 

Croesus tells of a rich and powerful monarch who falls from power and forfeits his fortune. It was a huge success in its day propelled by Keiser's great gift for melody. 

In this new production, devised by director Tim Albery with conductor Harry Bicket, it is performed in English and features celebrated American male soprano Michael Maniaci in his UK debut role.
