The BBC National Orchestra conducted by Jac van Steen perform Prokofiev's First Piano Concerto, followed by symphonies by Giles Swayne and Sibelius.

Petroc Trelawny introduces a concert given at St David's Hall, Cardiff.

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and principal guest conductor Jac van Steen are joined by award-winning Swedish pianist Peter Jablonski for the 18-year-old Prokofiev's defiant First Piano Concerto. This is followed by the world premiere of Giles Swayne's Symphony No 1. The concert ends with the Nordic grandeur of Sibelius's majestic Fifth Symphony.

Jez Nelson presents the second of three editions of Jazz on 3 from the London Jazz Festival, featuring a gig by the Charles Tolliver Big Band given at the capital's Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Charles Tolliver came to fame as a trumpeter in 1964 playing alongside saxophonist Jackie McLean and went on to play on several key hard bop albums in the late 1960s, before founding the quartet for which he is perhaps best known, Music Inc.

Jez Nelson presents the second of three programmes from this year's London Jazz Festival, featuring a gig by the Charles Tolliver Big Band recorded earlier in the week at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Tolliver came to fame as a trumpeter in 1964, performing alongside saxophonist Jackie McLean , and went on to play on several hard bop albums in the late 1960s, recording with musicians such as Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Roy Haynes , Max Roach , Sonny Rollins , Horace Silver and McCoy Tyner.
