Jez Nelson presents a concert given in honour of the landmark birthday of the prolific composer, arranger, trombonist and bandleader Mike Gibbs. 

Recorded at Birmingham's CBSO Centre, the concert features an all-star transatlantic big band. They include guitarist Bill Frisell, bassist Steve Swallow, drummer Adam Nassbaum and a saxophone section bringing together Chris Hunter, Stan Sultzman and Julian Siegel, as well as many other important names.

Mike Gibbs is one of the most influential composers of the past five years and is particularly known for his eclectic tastes, which leave his music infused with elements of pop, jazz, rock and classical styles. He has worked with many of the biggest names in and out of jazz, including Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Joni Mitchell and Peter Gabriel.
