Shadowtime
Brian Ferneyhough 's first opera, recorded on its only visit to the UK, at English National Opera.
The work unfolds in a sequence of seven scenes, beginning with the suicide of the German philosopher Walter Benjamin , whose writings on time, history and representation are woven into Charles Bernstein 's dream-like libretto. Before the performance, Stephanie Hughes is joined by Ivan Hewett to explore the ideas behind
Shadowtime, with contributions from Nicolas Hodges and the composer himself.
