Rhythm 'n'Jews - the Story of Klezmer
2/4. The Hidden Light. In the early years of the 20th century, Klezmer arrived in America and encountered jazz. Two clarinettists competed for klezmer supremacy: the clean-cut Russian Dave Tarras and Polish wild man Naftule Brandwein , and an unexpected craze for Yiddish swing infected the jazz world. Linton Chiswick continues his history and talks to the great pianist and reed player Pete Sokolow , who played with Tarras in his latter years. Producer Kathryn Willgress
