Cockaigne Until recently, the common and universal condition was one where people worked hard and goods were scarce, and this remains the case in much of the world. Francis Spufford contemplates what it means in the 21st century to have enough or not have enough, how we have arrived at our contemporary concept of plenty, and why, once reached, the land of Cockaigne is not necessarily a satisfactory place.
