Live from the Music Hall, Aberdeen. Presented by Sandy Burnett. Sibelius Symphony No 7
7.50 Interval: Concrete Mon Amour
Writer and critic Ian Sansom grew up with concrete: his father worked for 40 years for a firm that made and supplied concrete, cement and gravel throughout London and the South East. From childhood weekends in the quarry- a bit like an adventure playground with additional heavy machinery- Sansom moved on to ajob as a weighbridge clerk before turning to a more domestic love affair with a concrete mixer and a batch of ready-mix in the back garden. He explores the noble past and the future promises of this most unromantic of building materials.
