Film Music Week
4: Russia. Tommy Pearson presents a week of music from the movies. In today's programme he introduces some of the music written by three of the greatest composers working in the Soviet music industry: Sergei Prokofiev ,
Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke. Vassily Sinaisky conducts the BBC
Philharmonic in Prokofiev's music for the comic film Lieutenant Kije,
Shostakovich's score for a 1936 film about the Spanish Civil war- Salute to
Spain, and Schnittke's music for a 1971 film about the goings on in a sports stadium, Sport, Sport, Sport.
