Michael Berkeley's guest today is barrister Geoffrey Robertson QC, who has appeared in many landmark human rights trials and famously defended the publishers of Oz magazine and the Sex Pistols on obscenity charges. His musical choices reflect aspects of his career, with music by Phil Ochs , Bob Dylan , the Sex Pistols and the judge's song from Trial by Jury rubbing shoulders with works by Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Kurt Weill and Offenbach.

Euridlce Gluck 's opera retells the myth of Orpheus descending into the underworld to rescue his wife Euridice by taming the furies through the power of his music. Writing in a simpler, leaner style than the prevailing fashion, Gluck goes righttothe heart of the story, portraying the heartbreak of lost love and conjuring up the devilish atmosphere of Hades. American countertenor David Daniels makes his long-awaited Covent Garden debut as Orfeo in this concert performance. Presented by Donald Macleod.
