The first of two programmes this week in which the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under Eric Stern focus on great Hollywood film music. Hollywood has always been the mecca of the movies, and like the stars and directors, musicians and composers also flocked there in hope of gaining fame and fortune. Music includes the wide-open spaces of Dmitri Tiomkin's opening music for The High and the Mighty, Leonard Rosenman's punchy music to Rebel without a Cause and Miklos Rosza's epic march from Quo Vadis - The Red Pony. Plus John Williams's poignant theme to Schindler's List and his unforgettably stirring music for the Indiana Jones films.
