An eight-part series in which Sir
George Christie , present owner and chairman of Glyndebourne, traces the history of the festival in conversation with James Naughtie. 6: The Haitink/Hall Era
The seventies and the early eighties at Glyndebourne were dominated by Bernard Haitink and Peter Hall , whose series of productions - particularly of the Mozart/Da Ponte operas - made their mark on the house in the same way as those of Fritz Busch and Carl Ebert 40 years before. Sir George Christie looks back on a period when Glyndebourne was riding high artistically and which saw the arrival of two designers who were to leave their own strong stamp - John Bury and David Hockney. Featuring excerpts from Mozart's Don Giovanni , Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail and Cosi Fan Tutte and Monteverdi's 11 Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria, and with contributions from
Bernard Haitink and Sir Peter Hall.
