Chris de Souza explores the worlds of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-88) and Johann Joachim Quantz
(1697-1773), two contrasting characters who served at the same time in the court of Frederick the Great in Berlin. For CPE Bach, the "noble simplicity of the melody" was paramount. Including Quantz's Trio Sonata in G played by the Academy of Ancient Music Trio, CPE Bach's Flute
Concerto in D minor with James Galway
, his Symphony in B flat, Wql82 No 2 with Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert, and the Keyboard
Fantasia No 2 in C performed on the piano by Mieczyslaw Horszowski. Producer Matias Tarnopolsky
