by FRIEDRICH SCHILLER adapted by ANTHONY VIVIS and TINCH MINTER from the translation by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE Music by JOHN HOPKINS with and Set at the time of the 30 Years' War, Schiller's epic drama is dominated by three themes: love, astrology and militarism.
Proclaimed 'the greatest general of his day' and 'saviour of his country', Wallenstein is urged by both planetary predictions and the advice of his friends to fulfil his ultimate ambition by seizing the crown of the Holy Roman Empire. But he resists too long, and his procrastination leads to the deaths of all who love him, and ultimately to his own destruction. Narrator HUGH DICKSON
Brilliantly cast (FINANCIAL TIMES) Directed by MARTIN JENKINS (R) including intervals at 8 50* and 9 50*
