Edward Vyner, an English botanist, is studying specialised mountain plants at the Austrian home of Dr Strelitz. But, Nazi influence is on the increase in Hitler's
Austria and Strelitz's young son, Teddy, is easily led. Vyner's plant-gathering appears to be an obsession as elaborate role playing games develop.
