by DENIS DIDEROT (1713-84) A dialogue between a philosopher and a parasite translated and adapted by JOHN HOPE MASON with Peter Woodthorpe as the Nephew and Patrick Allen as Diderot
'A detached philosopher who believes in virtue and truth confronts the exuberant nephew who cheerfully admits to having no scruples. To the philosopher, moral values are universal and desirable; to the nephew they are useless and harmful. He demonstrates that what is morally undesirable can be creatively fruitful; that truth causes more trouble than benefit. This is a clash of views about the right way to live that are as entertaining as they are diametrically opposed'
