I'll Have to Go on Living In the 1940s Jean Rhys 's books went out of print and for about 20 years it was widely presumed that she had died. The women in her books - often chorus girls and actresses killing time In desolate bedsits after some romantic mishaphave been compared with the put upon heroines of pulp fiction. Yet Jean Rhys continued to write and finally received wide acclaim for her fiction.
