Seifert now aged 78, is one of Czechoslovakia's leading poets. Although essentially a lyrical writer his poems have been pre'ented from being published in his native country since 1968.
Reviewing the recently Published edition of these Poems Peter Porter , in The Observer of 16 timber 1979, wrote: twald Osers' versions of Seifert's Czech strike me as such effective poems in English that I recommend them to all readers of Poetry
