Internecine warfare finally surfaced in Parisian artistic circles during the early 30s. The tale is told of intense rivalry between Igor Markevitch and the young Virgil Thomson , who bitterly resented the Princess de Polignac's virtual mono-poly of musical patronage. A last example is encountered of her generosity to Stravinsky. And she commissions a symphony from a wholly unexpected source: Kurt Weill : records
