Reductio ad ...
In an economic attempt to combine the recession with a commemoration of Beethoven in this 150th anniversary year, Christopher Hogwood examines some reduced versions of Fidelio (for wind band), the Second Symphony (for piano trio), and the Fifth Symphony (for piano solo), with the addition of Till Eulenspiegel and Scott Joplin 's Wall Street Rag to lighten the gloom.

Colin Blakely in Judgement by BARRY COLLINS
During the Second World War, the German army abandoned a monastery in Southern Poland leaving several captured Russian officers locked in a cellar. Weeks later, the advancing Red Army broke open the door - and found two survivors, both driven mad. In this play one of the two, Captain Vukhov, is presumed sane. Standing, as it were, in white hospital tunic and regulation issue slippers, he addresses his judges.
