There are several grounds for supposing that eight of Scarlatti's sonatas were originally conceived as violin sonatas. and Lionel Salter has edited and arranged them as such. In addition, a few other sonatas were conceived, either explicitly or impiicitly. for chamber organ, and both the organ sonatas in this programme have indications for changes of register and manual.
