Scarlatti Sonatas

on BBC Radio 3

A fortnightly series
The violin sonatas: second of two programmes, which also includes two organ sonatas. EDUARD MELKUS (violin)
LIONEL SALTER (harpsichord) LUIGI TAGLIAVINI (organ)
There are several grounds for supposing that eight of Scarlatti's sonatas were originally conceived as violin sonatas. and Lionel Salter has edited and arranged them as such. In addition, a few other sonatas were conceived, either explicitly or impiicitly. for chamber organ, and both the organ sonatas in this programme have indications for changes of register and manual.
Violin Sonatas: c minor (Kk 73): E minor (Kk 81)
Organ Sonatas: D major (Kk 288): G major (Kk 328)
