The American sociologist Erving Goffman has greatly influenced students of sociology and others through his writing about the interactions between individuals and groups. Professor Pahl, of the Sociology Department at the University of Kent, finds a particular message in Goffman's recent work, which he criticises for its lack of moral concern.
