Sir William Chambers (1723-1796), one of the founders of the Royal Academy and architect of Somerset House, is generally regarded as a representative of English Palladianism; but Sir Nikolaus argues that in Chambers's best work there is more of Piranesi and Paris than of Palladio. He refers to Sir William Chambers , the recent book by John Harris , with contributions by J. Mordaunt Crook and Eileen Harris.
