CHARLES WILSON , Professor of Modern History at Cambridge, celebrates the anniversary of the capture of Brill by the Sea Beggars on 1 April 1572. This attack marked the beginning of the main Revolt of the Netherlands and, according to Professor Wilson, should be ranked in significance alongside the storming of the Bastille and ' the shot that echoed round the world ' at Concord.
