In his second talk DERYCK COOKE concentrates on a single theme in The Ring - the one known as the ' Flight 'Motive ' - and examines its development throughout the work. He puts forward a different interpretation of its function, which, he believes, throws a completely new light on the essential meaning of the tetralogy. ‡
