Lord Boyle was Conservative mp for the Handsworth division of Birmingham from 1950 to 1970, and Minister of Education from 1962 to 1964. In September 1970 he became Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds. He has an active interest in race relations, the arts, and world economic development.

The Renewal by Charles de Gaulle
Just before he died General de Gaulle published in Paris the last volume of his memoirs, covering the period 1958-1962. General Andre Beaufre , who was French Army Commander at Suez, talks about de Gaulle, statesman and historian, as he reveals himself during these early years of his return to power in France. The volume is to be published in Britain next spring,
' It is a book of passion: passion for France conceived as a living person, passion for the outstanding mission devoted to General de Gaulle by a decree of Providence, passion for the ideas and principles which were to inspire his action.'
