In his day Comenius was known throughout Europe, and in North America, for his reformist views on education and on the government of man. He was also the foremost Czech patriot and Protestant of his age. His life and his theories still have significance today, the tercentenary of his death. Sir Cecil Parrott is Professor ot Slavic Studies at Lancaster University, where he has founded the Comenius Centre devoted to the study of Central and South East Europe.
