Former Abbot of Downside, Bishop Butler is now Auxiliary to the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster. He is President of the Social Morality Council and Co-Chairman of the Joint Permanent Commission of the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He played a prominent part in the Second Vatican Council, and is author of The Theology of Vatican 11.
