Professor of Economic and Social History at the University of Kent at Canterbury
In 1863 Dr. Edward Smith carried out a government-sponsored enquiry, the first of its kind, into working-class diet during the Lancashire Cotton Famine. It Is a fascinating piece of research and its quality is closely involved with the qualities of Edward Smith.
