A play for radio written in Finnish by Kirsti Hakkarainen and translated into English by AARON BELL
Kirsti Hakkarainen was born in 1927 on the Karelian Isthmus. At the age of twelve. with 300.000 other Karelian Finns, she was evacuated to Central Finland tn the face of the Soviet invasion. Kirsti and Laura, the young heroines of her play, are also Karelian evacuees.

Mobutu TAMAR GOLAN has lived in the Congo as a teacher and journalist for much of the past seven years. She explains how the modern history of the Congo has been influenced by the country's enormous wealth, and also by the memory of the men who have been killed in the turbulent struggles that have raged in the Congo since independence in 1960.
