Debussy sketched out music for Theodore de Banville's play, "Diane au bois," during his stay in Rome in 1885. The manuscript that survives is a setting of parts of the second act leading up to the seduction of Diana, and has remained unpublished and unperformed.

Edward Lockspeiser discusses its position in Debussy's output and its relationship with other early music including the Prelude a I'apres-midi d'un faune (1894)

The programme includes a performance of the piece by Elizabeth Simon (soprano) Ian Partridge (tenor) and Paul Hamburger and Viola Tunnard (pianos)
