A series of five programmes which profiles the nations of the United Kingdom in all their aspects. 2: Wales
Like the rest of the United Kingdom, Wales is facing a future in which an established way of life seems threatened by social, industrial and political change. But Wales is also a nation where today's problems overlay much older questions of cultural and linguistic identity. Historian Dr David Smith reports from the South Wales valleys;
Wayne Morgan reflects on how the Welsh are meeting the challenge of generating new investment and new jobs, and broadcaster and film-maker Gwilym Owen , visits rural North-West Wales, the heartland of the Welsh language and to many, the only true Wales, communities and way of life they are determined to protect.
And in the studio, Patrick Hannan chairs a forum in which the major threads in Welsh life today are brought together in an assessment of the present state of the Welsh nation.
