2: Yevgeny Yevtushenko As one of the first poets of the post-Stalin period to achieve international recognition, Yevtushenko helped to open the way for a revival of poetic activity in the Soviet Union. He has recently completed his first novel. Robin Milncr-Gulland assesses Yevtushenko's contribution to modern Russian literature, and introduces extracts from his works.
