In the spring of 1896, two ploughmen were working in a field near the village of Broighter in County Londonderry when they accidentally stumbled on some of the most important archaeological artefacts ever to be found in Ireland - the Broighter Hoard. But their extraordinary discovery soon became the centre of a raging controversy between the British Museum and the Royal Irish Academy.
Sam Hanna Bell tells the story of the struggle for possession of these priceless objects.
