Every year at Christmas. preachers remind their largest congregations of the timeless story of Christ's birth to a virgin at Bethlehem. But, as many of them know, considerable doubt has been cast in recent years on the historical reliability of the Gospel accounts.
Philip Crowe is a vicar in the Midlands, and formerly taught New Testament in an Anglican theological college. In this programme, he sets out to answer, with the aid of a number of distinguished scholars, the question of what really happened at Bethlehem.
