When Norman Shelley died earlier this year. an obituary in The Times said he was ' among the most applauded actors of his time'. His performances ranged from the loveable Pooh Bear (of A. A. MILNE 'S stories for children), to ' a wise and gracious' Prospero in The Tempest; and included the reading of Churchill's wartime ' on-the-beaches ' speech for American radio listeners, and the part of Colonel Danby in The Archers.
In this tribute to an old friend and colleague, David Davis recalls some of those roles and reminisces about Norman's style and personality with people who worked alongside him.
