Chains by CONOR FARRINGTON
The Governor of Monesterios Prison in Juntas-land is well equipped to deal with the normal problems associated with detaining political prisoners ... the rack, the strapado and the lash are always at his disposal. There are many stories of the persecution of Christians in Uganda under the rule of Idi Amin. Ten years ago the Church in East Africa was the strongest and fastest growing in the world but what has happened since then? Now the oppression is over Christians are free again to talk of their experience.
In this programme, recorded within the last two months in Uganda, reporter Michael Page talks to all kinds of Christians to find out what it was like before Amin, under his rule, and their hopes for the future.

James Roose-Evans explores the dance world of Martha Graham

'One of the greatest choreographers the world has ever known... a woman who has transformed a large part of the dance to her own image.' (Clive Barnes)

With Martha Graham and Robert Cohan, Artistic Director of the London Contemporary Dance Theatre and in the Dance Class sequence - Jane Dudley. Passages from The Notebooks of Martha Graham and C.F. Cafavy's poem Ithaca read by Margaret Robertson.

Martha Graham's spectacular career as a dancer, teacher and choreographer spans more than half-a-century and she is generally regarded as the single greatest influence on modern dance. Now in her 80s, she is at present leading her own company, the oldest major American dance company with more than 150 of her own works in its repertoire, in its second season at the Royal Opera House. Covent Garden.
