Live coverage of the annual half-marathon from Newcastle and South Shields. Now in its 22nd year, an estimated
47,000 people will be taking part in the 13.1 mile run, from charity fundraisers to the world's leading distance runners and wheelchair competitors.
The wheelchair race begins at 10.10, followed by the elite women's race at 10.15 and the elite men's race and masses at 10.40. A strong contender in the women's race will be Sonia O'Sullivan , the winner in and current European 5,000m and 10,000m silver medallist. She will face stiff opposition from Kenyan Susan Chepkemei and Berhane Adere of Ethiopia, the world half-marathon champion. In the men's race the current world champion, Paul Kosgei of Kenya, begins as favourite.
